An area demarcated according to the geographical, political and administrative, is called a county. England is divided into 45 counties and Norfolk is one of them. The word ‘Norfolk’ came from the Old English word north folc , which meant the land of the North people. To the north and the east of the county, lies the North Sea. On the West, it borders with Lincolnshire. To its south lies Suffolk. The largest city being Norwich, the county has other market towns like Holt, Swaffham, Aylsham, Dereham, Fakenham, Wymondham, Diss, North Walshamhere, Thetfordare, Holt etc.

The Broads and the Rivers

The Norfolk’s topography is quite plain especially the north-western part of the Wash and the Broads. The major rivers that flow through the county are the Yare, the Great Ouse, the Little Ouse and the Bure. Other than the rivers and the vast coastline, the county has Broads, a clutter of small, shallow lakes that are used for navigation as well as for recreational purposes. These areas are also wetland sanctuaries.

The Broads are not natural but man-made, resulting of the collection of water in the pits that were extensively dug during the Middle Ages, for peat. The place is a perfect blend of fun and of the serene nature. The Broads have provision for sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, cycling and fishing, boating etc. Thus, other than the historical places, the tourists also have the option to enjoy some water sports.

Numerous hotels have, therefore, sprung up in and around the Broads and the rivers. These riverside hotels are luxurious and also made on the concept of bread and breakfast hotels. The City and Central hotel, Norwich is a riverside hotel. The hotel also provides services for leisure activities like boating, kayaking etc.

Norfolk- perfect for water-based holidays

For the tourists who love water-based holidays, Norfolk is the perfect destination. Other than the riverside hotels, the tourists can book boats and cruises too, for a lazy ride down the river. These yachts and the boats, all come with the most modern of amenities. Cruising down the river, the wildlife is the constant companion - ducks moorhens, herons and the coots, etc. The other attractions are the Swallow-tail butterfly and the darting fish. The boats are easy to maintain and are also fitted with the modern amenities to make the cruise as comfortable as possible.

The City and Central hotel other than arranging for the guides and making itineraries for the tourists, also guides them to the nearest bars and pubs and clubs in Norwich. It is also situated near the Hub of Entertainment, a walking distance from the hotel.
